Team Philosophy
Good morning. I’m genuinely grateful that you are here. In baseball, championships are not won by every player swinging for the fences. They’re won when everyone executes their role with precision. In Utah County, that’s our blueprint. And I’m proud to be a valued member of this team, ensuring our shared principles—personal freedom, local control, fiscal reform, and planning for the future—are translated into precise, effective law.
Integrity and Transparency
My colleagues recognize me as being thorough and detail-oriented, but that’s really about a standard of integrity. We’ve all seen the smoke and misleading claims this season. I appreciate your willingness to find the truth, and I trust your judgment to separate truth from lies. You deserve a representative who holds himself to the same standard he asks of government.
Transparency isn’t something I practice only when it’s convenient—it is a fundamental requirement of leadership. I filed my required financial report not only on time, but early, because you deserve to know where the money comes from and where it goes before you vote.
The Promise to Constituents
As an economist, I evaluate policies carefully and critically, always watching for unintended consequences that increase the burden on workers and businesses. When I look at a bill, I’m thinking about your family, your business, your paycheck, and your freedom. If a policy doesn’t make sense for your wallet, I will vote no—not because it’s easy, but because that’s who I promised to be.
Proven Real Results
Here is what that commitment looks like in practice: Real work that makes a real difference for real Utahns.
- I forced insurers to pass pharmacy rebates on to you—a Utah solution that is now being adopted nationally.
- I passed the bill that made Utah the toughest state in the country on drunk driving, and lives are being saved today because of it.
- I’ve helped secure funding for the Provo Airport expansion, FrontRunner double-tracking, and the new Springville interchange to keep our people and our economy moving.
What’s Next?
But there is still work to do.
- I’ll keep fighting to end the double tax on Social Security and ensure nobody loses their home because they can’t afford their property taxes.
- I will work to end “taxation by surprise” and continue to call out fees that are really just hidden taxes.
- I will keep chopping away at red tape and work to remove hurdles that make it hard for small businesses to succeed.
Conclusion
Good governance isn’t about swinging for the fences with untested theories or empty rhetoric. It’s about using technical expertise to deliver real results. Before I ever ran for this office, I sat where you are—as a delegate, a party officer, and a neighborhood volunteer and that’s still who I am.
I’m Norm Thurston, and I’m here to put points on the board for our team and for our families. Thank you for your vote.
