Rep. Norm Thurston Launches Re-Election Campaign
July 8, 2022

PROVO – Today, Utah State Representative Norm Thurston (R-Provo) announces the launch of his re-election campaign. Rep. Thurston was first elected in 2014 and has been serving parts of Provo and Springville since 2015.

About this launch, Thurston said, “Now that the primary election is over and the field for Utah County elections is set, it is time to prepare for the general election. I am excited at the prospect of serving the residents of Provo and Springville for another two years in the Utah Legislature.”

He adds, “I have accomplished a lot of goals for our district, but there is so much more to do. Having someone with experience to represent our area will be critical to ensure that our interests are taken care of.”

Thurston indicates that his campaign message will focus on three critical priorities:

  • The Economy – Prosperity is accelerated when government is small and taxes are low.
  • Your Freedom – The most important policy objective is to protect each person’s ability to make decisions and benefit from the consequences of those decisions, including your freedom to live, love, believe, grow, and prosper.
  • Education – We have to ensure adequate education funding, listen to parents, respect teachers as professionals, and allow decisions to be made at the local level where parents can be best engaged.

More detailed statements on these and other issues are available on his website, normthurston.com, which has been refreshed and updated for this campaign.

Rep. Thurston has nearly three decades of experience in government operations, public policy, and data analytics and research. He received a bachelor’s degree from Brigham Young University in 1990 and master’s (1993) and doctorate (1995) degrees in economics from Princeton University. He currently is the executive director of a nonprofit membership association that focuses on improving the collection and analysis of healthcare data.

Ben Summerhalder, Utah County Republican Party District 62 Chair, said, “Our party has nominated excellent candidates for every race on the ticket. I am pleased that there are so many great people interested in serving that reflect the principles that our party stands for: smaller government, lower taxes, and less regulation. I support Norm Thurston 100% as someone that represents those ideals and has worked hard to represent the people in our district.”
